Looking for ways to create a healthy homeschool environment in your family?
Be encouraged- if WE can create a healthy homeschool lifestyle, YOU certainly can! Let's start this journey at the beginning... Plunging head-first down the homeschooling path 4 years ago, I was stressed, overwhelmed, and CERTAIN I would miss something! HOW would I EVER finish studying the endless homeschool curriculums and websites to choose from? Often I pondered why we homeschool in the first place, let alone trying to create a healthy home environment.
It seemed that every book, curriculum, and website was the BEST one out there. Being a bit a of a perfectionist, I had to try them ALL. That did NOT create a healthy environment! Instead it created crying children, a stressed-out Mom, and a tension-filled home. What did work? Follow along...
Take a long, deep, calming breath! Stress, fear, and worry, will do NOTHING to create the peaceful homeschool lifestyle you desire. If you do nothing else, do this- RELAX! I'll say it again, RELAX- everything will get done at some point, and what doesn't, probably isn't as important as you might think.
If you aren't relaxed, your children won't be. They will pick up your high-strung spirit over anything you attempt to teach them. Make yourself a yummy beverage, sit down and take a deep breath! -right after you change the baby's diaper :) Once the baby's clean, PLAY with your children! Little ones learn so much simply by doing fun activities with you. When it comes time for some 'sit-down' school, they will be more eager to get to work.
Remember you are not a homeschool super mom. Quit trying to keep up with everyone else's opinion of what you should be doing, and instead put your time and energy into what is right for your family.
A healthy homeschool can be created when you organize your homeschool day. Daily homeschool (yes, even sometimes through summer) and daily homeschool schedules are of utmost importance. For our family, we really don't 'do homeschool'- we have a 'homeschool lifestyle'. Children's Chores, activities, lessons, and meals, all need to be taken into consideration when planning your day. An example of our homeschooling routine is coming soon. Homeschool lesson planning and lesson plans can be a tremendous help and asset to organizing your homeschooling day. They can be found in many places from websites, to books, to homeshool curriculums found online, or even from the library. Please remember, homeschooling is NOT a 'one size fits all'. The curriculum, schedule, and lesson plan that works for one family, may not for you- the challenge is to find what does work for you and your family. Trial and error will be your best friend.
On a budget? The added stress of more expense doesn't help in creating a healthy homeschool. But, if you dig deep, the options are unlimited! Check out these sites and homeschool classifieds to find homeschool curriculums, used homeschool curriculums and other homeschool freebies. Check back soon for the site list. After all of your research, planning, and organizing, take a break! A good cup of tea, comfy chair, and good book (non-school related for a change) will help in keeping mom motivated in her healthy homeschool lifestyle. Once you have a plan of attack and your healthy homeschool days are organized, seasonal ideas such as homeschool Christmas ideas for the Holidays will go a long way to add a new freshness in routine for your happy children. A healthy homeschool lifestyle will incorporate all aspects of daily family life. From routines, chores, and family projects, even at a very young age, you can have the help you need from your little ones. And all the while, you're teaching them responsibilities so important to enable a happy family to function properly. A healthy homeschool environment in your family can be achieved, you CAN raise happy children. I will be honest with you- it won't always be easy, and even sometimes very difficult. But anything worth having takes hard work, and sometimes a lot of it! You will be rewarded if you stick with it!
